Unlimited Yakiniku


When you're a recent graduate, you get eager to start hunting down job opportunities and sending out your resumes to your long list of well-known companies thinking that they can provide better for you. You pass off smaller companies because you think they lack potential. By doing that, you just might end up overlooking some of the best opportunities out there. 


I work for a small tech company that probably only a handful of people know or heard of. We are but the tiniest speck in the huge competitive tech world. There are no multiple departments, no extravagant Christmas parties and the pay and benefits package may likely be slimmer compared to the other companies. However, the work environment is also less formal and less stressful. We've gotten to know each other pretty well and we work as a team. We've lost a couple of people over time but those who have stayed including myself have been with this company for almost 8 long years now. They gave me a chance to work at our head office and live in Japan several years back. Everyone at work has been given that wonderful chance. Living in Japan turned out to be one of the best learning experiences I've had in my whole life and I will always be grateful for that. 


We've been exposed to the different local dishes during our stay there ranging from delicious to weird (try RAW horse meat or liver, konyaku and inarizushi tofu pouch) to funky smelling (natto beans). It's really gross and best to avoid.

Anyway, all my colleagues and I pretty much agree on the one food we liked the best - YAKINIKU.

Yakiniku is a Japanese barbeque where small cuts of meat and vegetables are cooked on a table grill served with different dipping sauces. It has Korean origins but it's very popular throughout Japan.

Wakamatsu Yakiniku offers an eat-all-you-can menu. Try everything especially the variety of meat cuts available, just make sure that you can finish it or you pay double. I suggest you book a table ahead of time because the restaurant can get pretty busy even on a Tuesday night. This is our 3rd visit so that goes to show how much we like this restaurant. There's plenty of good food and it's a great place to go with a group of friends or colleagues.

The thin meat slices cook almost immediately upon hitting the hot grill. It might not be the best place to take a date because even with the vents, you will still reek of meat when you are done. Unless your date doesn't mind. 

So what's the allure with all the trouble of cooking your food, the smoke, the heat AND smelling like your dinner afterwards? The company of good friends, having good conversation while grilling your meal at your own pace make it a great dining experience.
